Learning about Trusts – June 17, 2013

On June 17, 2013, Bowers Harrison, LLP partner, David Gray, and other Southern Indiana attorneys will present a seminar on providing clients with the full spectrum of wealth preservation options.  This seminar is designed for the attorneys, financial planners, accountants, CPAs, tax preparers, trust officers, and paralegals although any other individual involved in creating, administering and terminating trusts is welcomed to attend. David and the other attorneys will provide a structure, which begins by breaking items into basic building blocks, for understanding various types of trusts, including revocable living trusts, trusts used for tax reduction, and grantor trusts.  They will also provide guidance on estate planning for the disabled as well as ethical considerations for creating trusts in general. The seminar will specifically provide professionals with knowledge on:

  • How to choose the most beneficial vehicle for preserving your client's wealth;

Employment Law Update Seminar – March 21, 2013 in Evansville

On March 21, 2013, Bowers Harrison, LLP partner, Mark Miller, will present an update on labor and employment law.  This seminar, produced by Lorman Education Services, is geared towards human resource managers, operations managers, vice presidents, presidents, accountants, controllers, and other supervisors or managers.  The presentation will cover a range of topics relevant at all stages of the employer-employee relationship, including hiring practices and procedures, creating employee agreements and handbooks, conducting a proper and thorough harassment investigation, and terminating the employment relationship.

These practices and policies – when properly implemented – can help employers avoid compliance confusion and expensive litigation and are especially relevant and important in today’s economic climate, in which employee claims and lawsuits can cripple business growth.

Tax Incentives for Business Investment, Job Creation and Job Retention

On February 23, 2012, Bowers Harrison partner, Mark Miller, and Greg Wathen, President & CEO of the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana, will discuss tax abatement as an economic growth tool. Tax abatement is a tool used by local government to attract private investment and job creation by exempting all or a portion of the new or increased assessed value resulting from new investment from the property tax roll.
