Bowers Harrison Partner, Arthur D. Rutkowski, Retires

Bowers Harrison, LLP of Evansville, Indiana announces that Arthur D. Rutkowski, one of its long-term equity partners, has retired from the full-time practice of law after forty-seven years, twenty-nine of those with Bowers Harrison. Arthur will continue to serve Bowers Harrison as an Of Counsel attorney.

Partner David Gray said, “Arthur has been part of this firm’s bedrock for over thirty years.  He has served on the firm’s Executive Committee, as a mentor for many attorneys over the years and a role model for us all.  We hope to see him in the office in his new role for years to come.”

In 1984, Arthur joined Bowers Harrison as a labor-employment attorney, focusing on representing large and small employers in arbitrations, union avoidance/ organizing campaigns, and labor union contract negotiations. Arthur has represented clients before the National Labor Relations Board, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state and federal courts across the United States.  He has advised large and small employers on the importance of writing, updating and evenly enforcing effective handbook language and policies and procedures. He has assisted employers in complying with current federal laws and agency regulations; such as, wage and hour requirements, Title VII issues, non-compete agreements and other constantly changing employment law practices, case law and trends. Arthur has advised his clients to be proactive and equitable in managing employees as the best way to optimize business and avoid legal problems.

Aside from the practice of law, Arthur is an avid legal writer.  He and his wife co-authored a book, Labor Relations in Hospitals that received the Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing in 1984.  Many of his articles have appeared in national publications. Most notably, Arthur has been a contributing author for Elkouri & Elkouri, How Arbitration Works, ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, BNA Books. Since 1986, Arthur has also published Employment Law Update, a national employment law newsletter now available on Westlaw, a database utilized by Iegal professionals. Selections from this monthly publication are available online at the Bowers Harrison blog.  Arthur will continue to write and publish the newsletter, mentor associates and work on selected cases.
